May 21st Pre-Memorial Day
Well I guess Season is here and underway. Other than trying to get my house ready for the Memorial Day
Weekend with a deluge of guests and spontaneous entertaining, where
have I been and what have I been doing?
Last week…
Thursday: I went to Trata in Watermill with Carole & Nicholas
French, Ann Ciardullo and Nicole La Montagne. We did wine and
appetizers at the Bar and had a really fantastic time (not the
cheapest place in town, but the ambiance was really cool, food was
great, and we all had a lot of laughs as usual). Nick had his
portfolio with him, and I truly enjoyed getting to see all of his
work…i.e. ”North American Hair Stylist of the Year”.
Trata is now doing a sensational outside bar and offering
lunch, thank the Lord! We need more chic spots for lunch & a
cocktail. For those of you trapped between Remsenberg and Shinnecock
Hills, you all know
there is no where for lunch anywhere in that region from October 1st
to May 1st. It’s a sin.
Friday: I made it to Q
Restaurant at The Inn @ Quogue, There was a nice crowd there, and
some dancing, Got there late, but had a few drinks and enjoyed the
music. I always enjoy Friday there, and to be honest Fridays there
got me through the Winter!
Sunday: Dockers Waterside. We ate dinner with friends at the bar. It
was extremely crowded for a Sunday in pre season down on Dune Road,
but many fun Dock-hosian spottings… The Countess Schmidt just back
from Brazil looking like a "new woman", Denise Bornschein
from Hamptons Magazine. We love Denise.
Sean Kehlenbeck from Q Restaurant. Tom McSherry from Remax
Realty, and Crystal Smith from Blue #1 Boutique, W.H.B., and
that’s only naming just a few. Some of us ate at the bar while
others made the scene in the dining room and we all got to watch an
amazing sunset, It was already the 4th one we got to see there for
2007 and it’s barely June. Food was fabulous and it was a great
pre season evening.
The weekend before last: I spent at the 4 Night launch party for
Muse Restaurant in Watermill. One night was Friends & Family,
one night was a party given by Mark Zucchero & his fiancé
Shannon Flahrety (of Flying Point Surf Shop Southampton and now Sag
Harbor). Finally the Saturday of the weekend was a gorgeous party
given by Ann Ciardullo.
Now Ann is such a hostess, and her mix of
guests and the music of The Mambo Loco Band all came together as
pure class. Guests included, Michael Braverman, Carole &
Nicholas French (who were dressed to the nines as usual), Carole
debuted an amazing suite of jewels which were a gift from Nicholas's
recent business trip to Japan, and we love jewels…Cathy Dransfield,
Doreen Atkins, Nicholas Landry, Larry Hoffman, (of Dockers Dune
Road), Nicole La Montagne, Marriane Flahrety-Villeroy & Boch,
Geraldine French-Gucci, & Chef Guiffrida's amazing Mother:
Deborah Guiffrida, His sister Shari Guiffrida of The Pinehurst
Resort flew in from North Carolina to handle the Cuisine so that
Chef Matthew could mingle with the assembled guests, Incidentally
Shari is the youngest Executive Sous Chef in this 4 Star Resort's
history. She actually has the position which was occupied previously
by Chef Matthew himself.
The restaurant is an absolute jewel, Chef Matthew Guiffrida has put
together an amazing experience for the dining or bar patron alike.
I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying Matthew’s food at The Inn at
Quogue, and at The Patio in Westhampton,
so I was already prepared for the food to be spectacular. But
to see what he has put together in this very unique space just blew
my mind. The Décor is exquisite. And you all know I am highly
critical of décor. It has an energy and beauty to it that knocked
the wind out of me. The entire bar is a salt water fish tank that
you sit at while watching amazing aquatic wildlife move about their
world. I mean come on? You have to see this. The dining rooms are intimate
and the bathrooms are an experience all of their own as well. The
energy in the room was tangible. Every night of the 4 day opening,
the rooms positively sizzled. Muse is now open to the public so make
a trip out there and experience it. If you do not put it high on
your calendar of where to get yourself to ASAP, you are absolutely
insane...
Needless to say, I have been out a lot lately. Housewarming cocktail
parties, pre season launches at local businesses, and into Manhattan
for Hamptons Magazine Parties. It has been a rollicking pre season.
Memorial Day Weekend is finally here, the weather as usual is
completely up in the air, and all we can do is pray. The white
pants, all 6 pairs, are pressed and ready, hanging in the closet,
and if yours have been out yet, you are a disgrace and part of the
erosion of ideals & standards.
This week is a whirlwind already, tomorrow night I have a private
cocktail party in the gardens at Q Restaurant in Quogue Village,
Then Wednesday night I have The Q Restaurant 1 Year Anniversary
& Season Launch Party. This event will rock as there is nothing
like a really swank event in the rooms of Q Restaurant. All sorts of
nooks, and the lush garden, So much space for a really great
cocktail party, a lot of room to work the crowd and your outfit as
you glide by the guests. If you want to join me at this event, email
me ASAP, and join me at this 1st of The Memorial Day Week
blow-outs!!!
My week and weekend is so far looking like…
Tuesday at Q Restaurant and then down to Dockers.
Wednesday Night all
night at The Cocktail Party at Q Restaurant.
Thursday Night I am looking at something big, I have a birthday in
my group to celebrate so I am thinking start out at Muse in
Watermill at the bar, then maybe Bamboo East Hampton after? Jury
still out on that.
Friday no idea yet and Saturday same story.
Sunday Dockers in the evening then to the old Resort in East Hampton
now FLIRT, and then to DUNE in Southampton the old Cain.
Monday resting all day at home, then down to Dockers to close the
Weekend with all of my houseguests and the rest of my group for
cocktails and the band and dinner. My favorite close to every
Holiday Weekend.
I am excited about Season officially starting, and all the buzz and
excitement, and what we are going to be doing where and when and
with whom! Heading back to party at some old haunts and keeping an
eye out for some fresh new ones! I am sure you will all be there!
Wednesday,
May 31, 2007 Post-Memorial Day (The Storm has passed!)
To
look back at what I wrote as last week was bearing down on us all,
and now to look back at how those 7 days played out, blows my mind.
It was the best Memorial Day in at least 4 years, I feel like I saw
and did it all, I know there was a lot that I missed but I can tell
you I gave it my best shot…
Here
we go, ya ready? Good, cause I’m takin’ it to the bridge.
Well
the Memorial Day holiday kicked off for me at a Private Cocktail
Party for Nicole La Montagne's Birthday in the Gardens of Q
Restaurant in Quogue. It was a very nice 3 hour event, with a
preview of the delicious hors d’ oeuvres that Chef Tramontano
would be featuring the following evening for the Q Season launch.
Guests included Crystal Smith from Blue One Boutique in WHB, Sean
Kehlenbeck the owner of Q Restaurant, Antonio Bottero from Annona
WHB, and Linda Palermo. It was a nice evening of mingling and
warming up for the weekend, which little did I fully realize was
starting right then and there.
Next
was Wednesday and back to Q Restaurant in Quogue for the massive
Season Launch Party- I swore I was making the 5:30 start but, that
was a bust and we made it for 6:30. I was greeted on the front walk
by the Owner of Q's Parents who were taking a quick break from the
mayhem brewing inside. After pleasantries I entered and dear lord
did it immediately begin, who was there? Well really who wasn't
there? Debra Halpert Editor of Hamptons Magazine, Barbara Ramsey
& Peggy Malerba WHB, Denise Bornschein Hamptons Magazine, Jane
& Bryce Schearer of Stony Brook University, Ann Ciardullo of
Bridgehampton, Cathy Dransfield-East Hampton, Doreen Atkins-Sagaponack,
The Monte Boys from Gurneys, Richard Ball from Prudential, Anthony
Oliverio of Quogue, and so many more. I think back and I really can
only grab the highlights which are as follows: Great Food which the
whole crowd was talking about, the eclectic fantastic mix of the
crowd, the unbelievable cosmopolitans, and the 450 people crammed
into a real swinging cocktail party. For me, it was a massive
kick-off to Memorial Day. Just think at that point there was still 5
more nights to go!!!

First of all, I am so
excited that Sean has asked me to put my own spin on the fabulous
events in the Hamptons! As an out-and-about member of the
social circle out here, I asked that he keep my identity a secret,
as I don’t want to cause any fuss over my opinions that I share
here. With that being said, thank God that season is here!
The weather lately has fooled many, including myself, into thinking
that it was going to be cold forever. The social scene seems to be
underway already, with events popping up in inboxes everywhere!
